A comprehensive well integrity assessment on a problematic subsea well

Project goal

To perform a well integrity assessment to gain an understanding of the well’s current risk profile

Client:

Oil and gas operator

Asset:

Subsea well

Location:

Europe

Why we were contracted

The client noticed abnormal well pressure behavior in a subsea well and wanted to determine if it was safe to continue operations.

Add Energy was contacted to give advice on further action to rectify the situation by conducting a technical investigation.

Why we were contracted

What we did

Data analysis

Data analysis

Compared well design reports and production data to NORSOK D-010 requirements using an in-house well integrity tool to understand the current risk profile of the well

Developed a remedial system

Developed a remedial system

Highlighted the projected benefits from remedial actions identified through analysis in a traffic light system. The traffic light system also created the basis for a leak path analysis, which was performed by well kill specialists to determine if additional resources were required to kill the well in the most likely well control incident

Risk assessment

Risk assessment

Performed an overall risk assessment to lower the risk level to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)

Delivered a close-out report

Delivered a close-out report

Suggested new operating procedures and recommended practices to lower the risk and ensure continued safe operating conditions

The result

Based on the well integrity analysis and recommendations provided by Add Energy, the operator was able to make an informed decision to keep the well in operation whilst working to adhere to the suggested guidelines.

This resulted in the operator achieving their annual production target.
